Natural Englandís Acknowledgements
This database owes much to many people. Flora for Fauna, a project developed with the assistance of grant-aid from Natural England by Jill, Duchess of Hamilton, was an early source of inspiration. Roger Whitehead of the Southern Wildlife Areas Network (SWAN) suggested something much closer to the current concept. The idea was then developed by John Stockdale of the Plant Press and Steve Berry of Natural England. Phil and Anna Hills and Phil and Jay Burkinshaw of Land Care Associates, a subsidiary of the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country, supplied the original data on contract. Other staff and volunteers there who helped with assembling the information were Guy Belding, Mike Bloxham, Sara Carvalho, Chris Parry, Paul Stephenson, Ed Turner, Lucy Wilson and Neil Wyatt. Jonathan Morgan-Jones and Nick Ryan of Ideal Integration Ltd developed the software. Jonathan developed the software for the original CD version and loaded several generations of data into it, and Nick redeveloped the software for this Internet version some two years later. Thanks are also due to Peggy Millard for her contribution to the ramsons text.
Special thanks go to Dr Chris Gibson and Dr Roger Key who not only supplied many of the photographs but were an unfailing source of encouragement and advice. Dr Jill Sutcliffe was an endlessly patient botanical adviser.
The following other staff members of Natural England, past and present, helped with photographs, suggestions, text improvement, moral support and proof-reading and in so doing made achievable what often looked like an impossible task.
